The IRIS team took part in Science Day on June 8, 2024, with 5 different topics about AI to participate in, learn about, but also exchange ideas. We had our stand on the ground floor of the SimTech building, Pfaffenwaldring 5a. These 5 topics were available to choose from:
Populism detection
We asked ourselves what populism actually is and why our everyday understanding often deviates from the scientific consensus. Visitors were able to interact with a work-in-progress AI that automatically detects populism.
Digital knowledge quiz: "Is your digital knowledge better than that of the average American?"
This exciting question invited visitors to take part in a quiz on tablets. Here our visitors could test their digital knowledge and win prizes.
Discover AI in schools
This experiment was aimed primarily at students. AI tools could be explored and there was a lively exchange about the exciting world of artificial intelligence, especially how it is changing our schools.
The agony of choice
Another test that could be taken on tablets, asking which news from online feeds visitors read and what this says about them.
Electronic dreams: literary narratives as a tool for critical reflection on intelligent systems
This exciting topic was presented by Curtis Runstedler. Curtis Runstedler hopes that his research will develop a conceptualization and a methodology of trust in the context of AI that can be applied to the humanities. Literary narratives and stories are relevant for communicating scientific information.
All of the tests could also be taken on a QR code using your personal smartphone - and sat comfortably on sofas next to our stand. Our IRIS thermos cups were in great demand and were given away after successfully passing the tests.
We would like to thank all visitors for coming and especially for the lively exchange. We had an incredible number of inspiring conversations and hope to welcome you all again next year.
