The 16th ACM WebSci'24 Conference, hosted by the University of Stuttgart from May 21-24, 2024, concluded with resounding success despite the rainy weather during the week. Over 100 registrations created a vibrant and positive atmosphere for all attendees.
The conference opened on May 21 with a PhD Symposium, several workshops, one tutorial, and Brave Conversations.
On Wednesday, May 22, Noshir Contractor, Steffen Staab, and Oshani Seneviratne opened the conference, and the winner of this year's annual Web Science Trust (WST) Test of Time Award has been presented to Albert Solé Ribalta (UOC), Manlio De Domenico (UniPD), Sergio Gomez (URV), and Alex Arenas (URV), for their work titled “Centrality rankings in multiplex networks”. Dame Wendy Hall announced per short recording that Noshir Contractor would take per place as teh Executive Direcotor of WST.
The WebSci'24 Conference featured five distinguished keynote speakers. Their insightful talks are now available on ACM'S YouTube Channel. Participants were privileged to hear from experts such as Jennifer Pan, Hannes Werthner, Jie Tang, Eszter Hargittai, and Dirk Hovy, who shared their knowledge and research with the global audience. In addition to the keynote presentations, there were seven engaging sessions with over 35 talks by accepted papers. The sessions covered topics such as: Opionion, Digital Landscapes, Misinformation and Moderation, Digital Art, Hate Speech and Fairness, Health on the Web, and Influence, Knowledge, and Wealth.
